Sorry about the advertising at the beginning, but it only lasts for a minute or so. For some background about the interview, refer to Holly Gray’s post on the TV Show Blog Living With A Mental Illness Isn’t Always Living.
Vodpod videos no longer available.
Mark,
I saw your interview with healthyplace. Congratulations on surviving some horrific shit. I struggle with my own mental illness, so this is one soldier to another. If you ever want to communicate outside your blog, let me know. Otherwise, just know that someone admires your courage and hopes good things for you. Thank you for your interview.
Thank you, Dynah, for taking the time to communicate and for your good wishes. Regarding courage, nine years ago I made a little sign that says “courage is a choice.” I keep it at eye level over my desk along with another sign, a quote from Maxim Gorky: “The assimilation of reality by an artist is a difficult process. Life, using experience to make him fruitful, does not stand on ceremony nor does it spare his soul, but only Life’s merciless selfishness fills the artist with the will to create.” Inasmuch as my perceptions and my grasp of reality are occasionally fractured by bouts of psychosis, it helps to keep such reminders up where I can always see them.
Thanks again,
Mark
